“I want to continue to make a difference by supporting Salem and its students after I am gone.”

In recent years at Salem, many students looking for a campus location for photographs that are quintessentially "Salem" have chosen a bench located under a magnolia tree just outside the Rondthaler Science Building. The pretty stone bench is engraved with Salem's seal on the seat and the motto "Make a Difference" carved into the front edge of the seat. The bench is kept clean and that's not by chance.

When Jenny Eury C'78 donated the bench to Salem, she committed to coming to campus every few months to clean the bench. Even during the pandemic, when Salem's campus was quiet and classes were held remotely, a masked Jenny was seen with scrub brush and bucket in hand, proudly making sure the bench was clean. Jenny's love of Salem and sense of pride in the institution are also reflected in her estate giving.

"Salem is my happy place," Jenny explains. "This bench is just a visual reminder of how I want to make a difference by supporting Salem and its students with an inspirational message. A few years ago, to further my support, I established an endowed fund for Salem's science and math departments. As a math major, the STEM programs at Salem are important to me, and I wanted to help those departments receive extra funding from this endowed source."

"To help build an even stronger foundation for the science and math programs, I have directed my estate gift to the endowed fund I've already established. I want to enable student growth by providing an opportunity for them to flourish academically in the sciences through my planned gift."

Jenny shares: "I may not be wealthy, but I consider Salem an extension of my family, so the choice to leave a planned estate gift was easy. There are many ways to make gifts. Every Salem alumna can find a simple way to make a planned gift for Salem."

"For me, by making a planned gift now, I get to experience the satisfaction and joy of knowing that I'm leaving a legacy to the institution I love," Jenny concludes.

Thanks to Jenny's current fund and her planned gift, she is indeed making a difference at Salem now... and in the future!
